Dowling College Advisement System - Quick Start Guide
Before using the advisement system, be sure to have done the following:
- Read the legal information and the system introduction.
- Have your user id and password for banner ready. Moft often,
your user id is your social security number, and your password is two zeros,
followed by two digits representing your month of birth, followed by two
digits representing your year of birth (00MMYY). For example, if my
birthday was March 1980, my password would be 000380.
- Understand that no information about you is recorded by the system;
anything you supply is kept temporarily while the system is processing your
request and is deleted after you logout. This means you can try out
different combinations of preferences without fear of being committed to
any decisions.
- At anytime when utilizing the system you may logout and therefore delete
all information the system is temporarily holding about you. To do
this, click on the "Click Here to logout" link on the bottom of any page
in the system.
To begin, open a new copy of your web browser, and type the following address
into the address bar:
http://localhost:8080/sas/servlet/Login
When the page loads, you will be presented with three boxes that you must
fill in before clicking submit. They are:
- User Id: Supply your user id as specified above (usually your social
security number).
- Password: Supply your password as specified above (usually 00MMYY).
- Catalog: Choose the catalog you wish the advisement system to use.
If you are unsure about which catalog to use, contact Dowling College
Advisement.
Once you have filled out this information, click Submit. If
an error message appears, read it carefully. In a few seconds you will
be automatically redirected to the previous page. If you are not redirected
click the link at the bottom to redirect yourself manually. If no error
appears, you should be taken to another page asking you to specify more information.
- Major: The major you want the system to use in calculating what classes
you need to take.
- Second Major: This field is optional. If you want the system
to consider a second degree, select it here.
- Minor: The minor you want the system to use in calculating what classes
you need to take.
- Number of CORE classes you are required to take: This field is optional.
If you are not a transfer student, leave this field blank. If you are
a transfer student, specify the number of CORE classes you were instructed
to take when you first registered. If you are unsure, leave this field
blank and the system will assume a default value.
Once you have filled out this information, click Submit. If an error
message appears, read it carefully. In a few seconds you
will be automatically redirected to the previous page. If you are not
redirected click the link at the bottom to redirect yourself manually. If
no error appears, you should be taken to a page displaying the classes you
still need to take in order to graduate. When done viewing this information,
it is very important to click the "Click Here to logout" link
at the bottom of the page. This will delete all information the system
was holding about you. If you fail to click this link, there is a slight
chance someone else utilizing the computer you're currently using can view
the output the system produced for you. Congratulations, you have successfully
used the Dowling College Advisement System!
