1.      What does the advisement system do?

Essentially, DCAS examines a student’s record, analyzes the courses that a student has already taken by accessing the school’s database, advises the student what classes they need to take to graduate, and what courses the student should take in the current semester.

2.      Who can use the advisement system?

Anyone who is enrolled at Dowling College as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or a senior can use DCAS.

3.      What do I need to use the advisement system?

To use DCAS you need to have an account on the Banner student record system (a user name and password), which a student automatically receives when he/she enrolls for classes at Dowling, and a web browser set up to accept cookies.  If you can currently access Banner through your computer, you already have everything you need to access DCAS.

4.      How do I know what my username and password for the advisement system is?

Your username and password for DCAS is the same as what you use to login to the online the Banner student record system.  Typically your username is your social security number, and your password is in the format 00MMYY.  That is, two zeros, followed by two digits specifying your month of birth, and two digits specifying your year of birth.  For example if I was born February of 1998, my password would be 000298.

5.      What do I do if my transcript is wrong?

Contact the Registrar in the Registrar’s office on First Floor in Fortunoff Hall.

6.      The advisement system asked me to supply a piece of information, and I don’t understand what it means.

Check out the quick start or the reference manual.  If you don’t find your answer see miscellaneous for contact information.

7.      What do I do if I get incorrect output from the advisement system?

First, go back and try the system again.  If you still get incorrect output, check the quick start and reference manual to see if you are making a mistake.  If you still don’t have a solution, check miscellaneous for contact information.

8.      Should I worry about the advisement system altering my school records?

No, not at all.  The Dowling College Advisement System cannot in any circumstance change any information in your records.

9.      Should I worry about the advisement system recording information about me without my knowledge?

Nope.  The system will always ask you before storing any information about you.
